Welcome
Later today, Fri 16 Oct 09, I hope to get an answer to an FOI request I put in to the BBC last month. I'm hoping that, although new to Blogging, by setting this account up I will find some way of sharing, with the WWW, all the knowledge gained from the BBC's response.
OK, so this isn't going to be as easy as I thought. If anyone has any idea how I can post documents here, then do let me know.
ReplyDeletePaul - if necessary you could cut n paste the document as a blog post. Better and more linkable than a comment.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work Paul - you're getting there!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the support everyone.
ReplyDeleteOK, I can't post files here so I've got someone working on a proper site for me (thanks Richard). I'll post a link to it (or get Nick to do so) when it's finally set-up.
The bad news is that the BBC seem to have taken more than the allowed 20 working days to provide the FOI information, no emails yet from them.
I'll keep everyone posted via Danielle's Blog.
Cheers,
Paul
Well done Paul.

Dear Rachael,
What happened? You had my hopes up yesterday. It's very nearly the end of the day and the Beeb is running out of time to deliver the FOI within the promised 20 working days. I'm looking forward to receiving soon, either, that update, or the information I requested.
If you're not still in work tonight, then I guess you're reading this on Monday. I hope you had a lovely, relaxing weekend and I anticipate hearing from you again very soon. If the problem lies at the BBC HD Department end, then please give them a sharp reminder. I'm quite used to waiting a long while for them to respond.
Dear Mr Eaton
ReplyDeletePlease accept my sincere apologies for not providing you with an update on your request on Friday.
The BBC HD department has now provided me with the relevant information and we are currently reviewing that information. I anticipate being in a position to provide you with a full response by Wednesday 21 October, at the latest.
Kind regards
Rachael Ward
Adviser, Information Policy and Compliance
Any news yet?
ReplyDeleteAny Reply?
Cheers, daveac
I'm afraid not. Another stalling email. Here's what the Beeb said today:
ReplyDeleteDear Mr Eaton
I am writing to update you on the progress of your request for information, made under the Freedom of Information Act.
The BBC's response includes a confidential Board paper and it is therefore important that we carefully consider any appropriate exemptions which may apply. To that end, I am awaiting final sign off from one person and I expect to receive that in the next 24 hours.
Please accept our apologies for the continued delay in getting this response to you. We expect to be in a position to send it no later than Friday 23rd October. If we are still unable to do so at that time, I will write to update you again.
Hi everyone. BBC FOI Docs are posted here. No time to check them. Will blog later.

OK, well over on the BBC Blog Nick has been critical of the way I'm doing this saying that I need to give people the opportunity to comment on these FOI responses using a Blog. It's not very easy for a beginner, but I think if you go to the top left of this page you'll see ab area called Blog archive. There I'm trying to extract and post the PDF information in the form of a Blog. Click the FOI Blogs, as available, to see the information. Adding comments beneath as you feel necessary.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your efforts Paul.
ReplyDeleteAs has been said on the BBC Blog, the interesting thing is the lack of visible email communication (redacted?) between the various stakeholders at BBCHD regarding encoders and/or bit rate.
Oh to be a fly on the wall listening to conversations at the water cooler...
